Sandra S. Murphy, Heida Hermanns International Piano Competition Artistic Director
Sandra Shaw Murphy was musically trained as a child by her mother, Juliet Shaw, and continued studying piano and organ performance at Hollins College and Juilliard. At the same time she began her piano teaching career, Sandra also started her professional activities with church music. Today, in addition to directing the Silvermine School of Music, she is Music Director of Greenfield Hill Congregational Church in Fairfield, Connecticut. Sandra’s association with CAM goes back to its inception, being instrumental in organizing the Renee Fischer competition and, subsequently, Artistic Director of the TEC Showcase. In addition, Sandra was one of the founding organizers of the House Concert Series, as well as performing as a collaborative musician for CAM audiences. Sandra’s strong interest in mentoring young musicians and her life-long commitment to teaching, performing and educating has been recognized by the state of Connecticut for Achievement in the Arts and a Lifetime Award for “Women in the Arts”.
