CAM ANNOUNCES ITS 2016-17 PROGRAM SEASON
CAM is pleased to announce its new 2016-2017 program season offering greater musical variety for your enjoyment.
Wenjie Lu, last year’s Heida Hermanns International Piano Competition winner, will kick-off our House Concert Series on September 11th with a concert at the Silvermine School of Music in Norwalk. Out of 48 contestants, Wenjie took the gold prize. As a frequent competition winner, he has performed in a number of cities in Asia, North America and Europe and is currently a candidate for Doctoral of Musical Arts degree at the Eastman School of Music.
On October 9th, CAM welcomes music ensemble Cuatro Puntos at House Concert #2. “Cuatro Puntos” means “four points” in Spanish and references their dedication to bringing people from all parts of the world together through music.
On November 5th and 6th, the 45th Heida Hermanns International Music Competition presents its tri-annual Voice Competition at our new venue, The Unitarian Church in Westport. Out of more than 50 vocalists from around the world expected to apply, up to 16 contestants will be invited to compete in the Semi-Finals on Saturday and six semi-finalist winners will be selected to compete in the Finals on Sunday afternoon.
2007 Competition winner, Jonathan Yanik (Saxophone) will perform at our first House Concert of the new year on April 7, 2017. A native of Simsbury, CT, Jonathan now lives and works in Washington, DC and is Principal Saxophonist in the US Navy Band and Adjunct Professor of Saxophone at Towson University. Jonathan is a versatile and enthusiastic musician who performs Saxophone, Clarinet, and Flute in many different musical settings, including Orchestra, Jazz Band/Combo, Chamber Music, Rock, and Pit Orchestra. He earned his Masters of Music in Saxophone from University of Michigan.
Wrapping up the 2016-17 season will be Classical Guitarist Jordan Dodson, with vocalist Charlotte Mundy, performing on May 21, 2017. Jordan is an active soloist and chamber musician based in New York and Philadelphia. In the Fall of 2011, he was one of two guitarists selected to inaugurate a new program in classical guitar at Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute of Music. Dear Members and Friends,
Summer is finally here, which means that we will be hosting our Annual Garden Party for members and guests. This year’s Garden Party will b held on Sunday afternoon, July 17th, at a member’s beautiful home in Westport. The Garden Party is our way of introducing CAM to new friends and saying thank you to our current members for their continued support. You will enjoy live music in a beautiful garden setting and learn more about CAM and its mission. We will also be introducing our 2016-17 program season. Tasty tidbits and libations will be served. It will be a wonderful afternoon of music, friendship and lively conversation with like-minded folks and the artists! A formal invitation will be sent to you very soon.
Summertime this year also means a new venture for CAM in New Haven. We are co-producing, in collaboration with the City of New Haven and Salt Marsh Opera of Stonington, CT, a showcase for emerging opera singers from our state called Opera Palooza, to be performed before an expected 20,000 music lovers on the New Haven Green on Saturday evening, August 20th. It’s free and don’t forget to bring a blanket and picnic basket or buy pizza from the many vendors that will surround the Green.
Summertime also gives our new intern, Lindsay Clarke, the opportunity to devote her time and talent to manage and support critical projects for CAM before she starts her college career that will focus on arts management at Principia College in the fall. Supervised by Pat Durner, our Manager of Administration, Lindsay will develop and improve CAM’s presence on all social media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as research and recommend opportunities for CAM to apply for grants from foundations, corporations, institutions and various government entities.
Membership matters! I can’t say it often enough. Your membership provides us with the funds necessary to run and manage this organization and gives us the audience who loyally attends our concerts and events. Please remember to renew your membership and help us grow by introducing us to your friends and neighbors. Please contact me directly at mailto:bpersky@CAMusic.org and let me know who you would like to recommend.
Please enjoy your summer and I look forward to seeing you at the Garden Party or our first House Concert in the new season!
