UNITED STATES NAVY BAND’S PRINCIPAL SAXOPHONIST  AND 2007 HEIDA HERMANNS INTERNATIONAL WOODWIND COMPETITION WINNER JONATHAN YANIK PRESENTED A PROGRAM INCLUDING CONCERT CLASSICS, CONTEMPORARY AND JAZZ

Jonathan Yanik is in demand across the globe as a performer, teacher and guest clinician and his solo album, Images, features many of his own arrangements for saxophone.  Jonathan’s recital was French-themed and included Tableaux de Provence (Paule Maurice), Beau Soir (Claude Debussy), Sonata en ut# (Fernance Decruck) and assorted jazz and contemporary selections.  Jonathan’s accompanist, Dan Campolieta, is a pianist, organist and composer.  His musical interests range from early music to the most avant-garde and has worked in a variety of settings, throughout the US.

Also entertaining us was The Fairfield Wind Trio, named Music for Youth Ambassadors in recognition of service to the community in 2016.  Making up the trio is Kate Wegener, a 16-year old oboist from Easton, Max Moon, bassoonist from Fairfield Warde High School and flutist Eric Hirsch, who attends Weston High School.

Following the reception, Jonathan held a Master Class for four talented young musicians recommended by their teachers.

A wonderful afternoon of fabulous music and friendship.  Spring was in the air!!
