House Concert with 2014 Heida Hermanns International String Competition Winner

Rachell Wong, Violin

What an amazing day we had with Rachell Wong and accompanist, Andrew Rosenblum.  Rachell’s program included Schubert A Major Sonata, Grand Duo; Kreisler/Brahms Hungarian Dance No. 17; Schuman Sonata No. 2 and a piece by Estrellita Ponce/Heifetz.  She surprised the audience with a wonderful rendition of Amazing Grace, in memory of her Competition host and long-time CAM supporter, Jeff Read.  Watch it here.

Tickets were $35, which included an informal reception following the performance. It was a great time for audience members and the artists to engage in lively conversation!

24 year-old violinist Rachell Wong has soloed with orchestras across the US and in Costa Rica. Recent concerts include a tour with the New Zealand String Quartet and recitals with world renowned pianist Anton Nel in Austin, Texas and pianist Johan Botes in Lucera, Italy. She was a prizewinner at the 2014 Heida Hermanns International Music Competition, Gold Medal winner at the 2013 International Crescendo Music Awards and the Grand Prize winner in the 52nd Sorantin International Young Artist Competition. Recent music festivals include the Tafelmusik Baroque Winter Institute in Toronto, the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig, the Ashkenasi/Kirshbaum Chamber Seminar at the Heifetz International Music Institute, Sarasota Music Festival, the London Masterclasses at the Royal Northern College in Manchester, the Starling-Delay Violin Symposium at the Juilliard School and the New Mexico Chamber Music Festival. Rachell received her Master of Music from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, in the studio of violinist Mark Kaplan. She received her Bachelor of Music in violin performance from the University of Texas at Austin, with Professor Brian Lewis. She plays on a 1752 Gagliano violin, on loan from Indiana University. Rachell also studies the baroque violin with Stanley Ritchie and in her free time loves studying the Scottish fiddle.
