House Concert with 2014 Heida Hermanns International Music Competition Winner.

Xiao Wang, Violin

A few snow flakes could not keep these music lovers away!  Xiao and Akiko delighted us with an exceptional program of Beethoven, Sibelius, Schumann and more!

Xiao began playing the violin at the age of five. At age ten, he was accepted to study at the Central Conservatory in Beijing with Professor Wei-dong Tong, later studying at the Curtis Institute of Music with Joseph Silverstein. He was First Prize winner of the 2012 Szigeti International Violin Competition and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Young Artists Competition. He won first prize at the 2014 Heida Hermanns International Music Competition and recently was a finalist at the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition of Belgium. Xiao is a passionate chamber musician and has collaborated with Phillip Entremont, the American String Quartet, members of the Mendelssohn String Quartet and the New York Philharmonic. He is currently a full scholarship student at Manhattan School of Music, where he studies with Lucie Robert.

Pianist Akiko Chiba received her Master of Music and Professional Studies Diploma from the Mannes College of Music with Yuri Kim and Jacob Lateiner and is currently engaged as a staff collaborative pianist for Aaron Rosand at the Mannes College of Music and Lewis Kaplan at the Juilliard School.
