Hailed for her superb acting and vocal power (Classical South Florida; El Nuevo Herald), Cuban American Mezzo-Soprano Zaray Rodriguez is equally at home performing works from the classic and modern repertoire in both operatic and concert work. Ms.Rodriguez has performed with various music organizations including Seraphic Fire’s Professional Choral Institute, where their recording of the Johannes Brahms’ Ein Deutches Requiem received a Grammy Nomination. Solo concert engagements include performances with Masterworks Chorus, Palm Beach Atlantic University Symphony orchestra, Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra and the Henri Mancini Institute. On the operatic stage, she has been seen performing the lead mezzo roles of Federico Garcia Lorca in Ainadamar, Principessa in Suor Angelica, Zita in Gianni Schicchi , as well as the Clerk in the South Florida Premiere Michael Dellaira’s The Death of Webern and Professor Nitrogen Scarlet in the world premiere of Carson Kievman’s Intelligent Systems. Recent Awards include National Semi-Finalist at the Young Patronesses of the Opera Competition, National Finalist at the New York Lyric Competition, and Prize Winner at National Society of Arts and Letters Voice Competition. This summer Ms. Rodriguez joins Seagle Music Colony’s Young Artist Program, performing the roles of Marie in The Most Happy Fella and Mrs. Paroo in The Music Man. She graduates from The Frost School of Music with a Master’s in Vocal Performance in the spring, and will join Boston University’s Prestigious Opera Institute for the 2016-2019 Seasons.
